Furniture Pieces That Never Go Out of Style

From holiday gatherings to cozy nights indoors, your pieces of furniture are the accessories in your life’s best scenes. Aside from bringing comfort into your space, they let your personality and style shine. In our last “Trends With Paige” blogs, our incredible design coordinator showed us her favorite home, kitchen, and lighting trends of 2020 (as well as design trends to avoid) — today, she’s filling us in on her all-time favorite furniture staples that are a must-have for your Cothran home, no matter your personal design preferences.    Take a look at the pieces that simply never go out of style.  

Timeless Furniture Pieces

  A Comfortable Sofa: I find the best sofas include 2-seat or 3-seat cushions with self-welt, in a natural tone fabric. If it’s made well, you can always have it re-upholstered over the years. This piece of furniture will always be the grounding force of any room. Make sure to select a clean-line look for a modern style, or a traditional one for a more transitional look. Accessorize with accent pillows and you’re good to go!     The Credenza: I especially love this piece of furniture. It can be used in so many different rooms and it always offers additional storage. The classic location for it is in the dining room, however, I like to get creative and use it in the living room to place the TV on, or in a long hallway as a receiving station with a bowl for keys, a mirror above, and 2 lamps on either end.  Large Leather Chair with Ottoman: This item is great in any living room or den. My go-to chair comes in classic brown or tobacco leather and includes large arms. My favorite kind of ottoman (perfect to put your feet up on!) is also big enough to curl up in during family movie night. This piece is sure to become a family favorite.     Pair of Armchairs: These upholstered beauties are typically used for added seating (I prefer them paired up across from the sofa with a small table in between). But if upholstered in a fun fabric, they can add a little excitement to any room too! You can also use them in your owner’s bedroom, flanking either side of a dresser, or sometimes as your formal dining chairs at the head of the table.     Large Tufted Ottoman: Who doesn’t love to put their feet up while sitting on the sofa? Now you can have a footstool and coffee table all in one. This is the most utilitarian piece of furniture you will ever own. Safe for pets and little ones, this textured piece of furniture can be enjoyed in any room. Large Framed Mirror: As you might have noticed by now, I’m all about using pieces of furniture and accessories in nontraditional settings! This is one of those items. They tend to be expensive if you purchase a new one, so keep a lookout when antiquing for a great deal.
